bumGenius 4.0 One Size Pocket

FuzziBunz Elite One Size Pocket

Pocket Diapers - Pocket diapers are like AIO or AI2s.  They have an outer layer of a waterproof material and an inner layer of a stay-dry material, like microfleece or suedecloth.  They close with velcro or snaps.  They have a pocket opening that allows for the absorbent inserts/doublers to be stuffed in the pocket during use and then removed for laundering.  The absorbent material for stuffing can be an insert, prefold, or doubler.  Pocket diapers are a popular choice among users because the amount of stuffing can be customized to the baby.

The way that these One Size Pocket diapers adjust as the baby grows is the primary difference here: bumGenius snaps down in the front while the FuzziBunz has hidden button-hole elastic to micro-adjust the waist and leg openings.

bumGenius Elemental Organic Cotton AIO

AIO - All-In-One - AIOs are fitted or one size diapers that have a waterproof outer layer.  This layer usually consists of fabric that has a TPU (Thermal PolyUrethane Laminate) backing, polar fleece, or wool.  We chose the GroVia AIO because of its super-stretchy tabs, and "flapping" inner of organic cotton.  "Flapping" aids in drying time.  These are the closest in similarity to disposable diapers since they are a one-piece, single-use diapering system. 
The GroVia AIO fits babies 10-35+ pounds and works great as a "pull-up" potty trainer down the road.

GroVia AIO

The primary difference between the GroVia AIO and the bumGenius AIO is the way it closes: side-snaps or front-snaps. 

(Some people think the bumGenius Elemental looks too busy with front snaps and rise snaps on the large setting).

GroVia AIO has an extra insert that can be snapped in, if needed.  This allows for faster drying <it flaps in the dryer> and customized absorbency.  Because of the side snaps, the GroVia AIO also makes a great beginning potty-training pant.

bumGenius Elemental tends to fit a little wider in the crotch (which is a bonus for those syrup-y early-on poos....)


GroVia One Size Hybrid AI2 (All in Two)

AI2s are very similar to AIOs (All in Ones) with the exception that the absorbent soaker material is not attached to the diaper in any way.  The soaker is usually a second, separate piece that must be used in conjunction with the diaper.  This will definitely aid in drying time and allow you to reuse your diaper cover a few times before washing.  We love the convenience of the GroVia Hybrid System: choose organic cotton, or an earth-friendly disposable GroVia BioSoaker.

I received two of these as gifts and I think they are fantastic! This is a great introduction to the different styles of cloth diapers that are available. Even knowing the difference in fit between a snap and a velcro closing on the same brand of diaper is useful, and the Dim Sum makes it easy to find out all the differences without spending a ton of money or going crazy over the options.
